The most common “drain” on a battery is the alternator believe it or not. The diode bridge can fail and drain the battery: in addition the battery will not be getting fully charged, so it will eventually go dead. This defect may not turn on the alternator warning light.
The ONLY thing the STARTER does, is turn the engine over. The ALTERNATOR generate the electricity to keep the battery fully charge.
